SCHOLARSHIPS

SHAPE Arkansas is committed to supporting the next generation of health and physical education leaders by offering scholarships to outstanding student members. These scholarships recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a passion for promoting physical activity and wellness in their schools and communities.

Four Scholarships Available:

  • Newman McGee, Jr. Scholarship - $600

  • Jeff Farris, Jr. Scholarship - $300

  • Past-Presidents' Scholarship - $300

  • John Hosinki Memorial Scholarship - $300

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Undergraduate students with a declared major in the field of HPERD in an Arkansas college or university of their choice.

  2. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

  3. Minimum of 60 earned hours.

  4. Student member of SHAPE Arkansas.

Application Requirements:

  1. Completed Application Form: All required fields must be filled out accurately.

  2. Personal Statement: A 500-word essay detailing the applicant’s passion for health and physical education, career aspirations, and how they plan to contribute to the field.

  3. Letters of Recommendation: Two letters from professors, mentors, or professionals in the field who can speak to the applicant’s qualifications and commitment.

  4. Academic Transcript: An official or unofficial copy demonstrating academic performance.

  5. Resume: Highlighting leadership roles, community involvement, and relevant experiences.

Application Process:

  1. Any qualified student may apply.

  2. Any association member may nominate an eligible (see above) student.

  3. Complete the application.

Selection Process:

A scholarship committee comprised of SHAPE Arkansas board members and professionals will review applications and select recipients based on eligibility criteria, academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to the field.

Award Details:

  • Scholarship amounts may vary based on available funding.

  • Funds will be directly applied toward tuition, fees, or educational expenses.

  • Recipients will be recognized at the annual SHAPE Arkansas Conference and may be featured in SHAPE Arkansas publications.

Important Dates:

  • Application Deadline: 4 weeks prior to the fall conference.

  • Notification of Award: prior to the fall conference.

  • Scholarship Awards Presentation: Fall Conference Awards Ceremony
