Purpose
The SHAPE Arkansas Elementary School Teacher of the Year award recognizes an outstanding elementary school teacher who has demonstrated excellence in promoting physical education, health, and student wellness in Arkansas schools.
Eligibility

The nominee must be a current elementary school teacher (K-5) in Arkansas.

The nominee must show active leadership in physical education, health, and student wellness.

The nominee must have a positive and lasting impact on students, school culture, and the community.
Selection Process

Nomination Period:

Nominations are submitted via the official Nomination Form before the deadline.

Review & Evaluation:

A selection committee of SHAPE Arkansas board members and education professionals reviews all nominations.

Teachers are evaluated based on:

Dedication to Quality Physical Education & Health

Innovation in Teaching Strategies & Activities

Impact on Student Well-being & School Culture

Leadership in Promoting Physical Activity & Wellness

Finalist Selection:

The top 3-5 teachers who demonstrate exceptional leadership and impact advance as finalists.

Finalists are notified and invited to participate in an interview with the selection committee.

Classroom Observations (Optional):

The committee may conduct virtual or in-person classroom visits to observe their teaching and student engagement.

Public Engagement & Recognition (Optional):

SHAPE Arkansas may feature finalists on social media to showcase their work and contributions.

Winner Selection & Announcement:

The committee makes the final decision based on a holistic review of all evaluation criteria.

The winner is announced at the SHAPE Arkansas Annual Conference and recognized in SHAPE Arkansas publications and media.

Award & Recognition

Official Award: A trophy or plaque is presented at the conference.

Public Recognition: The winner is featured on the SHAPE Arkansas website, social media, and state education news.

Professional Development Opportunity: The winner may be invited to share best practices at SHAPE Arkansas events or conferences.

Nomination for National Recognition (Optional): The winner may be considered for a regional or national SHAPE America award.
